Ohio's 7th District 2026: Miller and Poindexter answer the same four questions

Published Oct 3, 2026 · SUPERCONDUCTOR

The Akron Beacon Journal (Sept. 29, 2026) put the same questions to both candidates and printed their answers in alphabetical order. Below are both answers to four of those questions, word for word, one answer per candidate per topic — tariffs, health care, the southern border and abortion. Follow the link for the full questionnaire.

  1. “Miller: I don't support tariffs, however, once the Supreme Court declared they were legal, I wasn't going to go against my party's president just as any Democrat wouldn't.” — Akron Beacon Journal (via Yahoo News) — “7th district candidates talk tariffs, health care and abortion” · published Sep 29, 2026
  2. “Poindexter: I oppose the blanket tariffs that have made everything from groceries to school supplies more expensive. While I support targeted tariffs to protect jobs, I do not support putting tariffs on things like aluminum and potash (mined and manufactured salts) where tariffs just make things more expensive. I am concerned these are jacking up prices and hurting our farmers. Unfortunately, Max Miller has voted multiple times to protect these blanket tariffs.” — Akron Beacon Journal (via Yahoo News) — “7th district candidates talk tariffs, health care and abortion” · published Sep 29, 2026
  3. “Miller: I am someone who is always trying to find a solution. I was one of 17 Republicans who voted in favor of the ACA (Affordable Care Act) and have been working on numerous health care pieces of legislation myself. For instance, a bill I cosponsored called the Apples to Apples Comparison Act of 2025 just passed out of the Ways and Means Committee...which will give seniors more health care options to choose from.” — Akron Beacon Journal (via Yahoo News) — “7th district candidates talk tariffs, health care and abortion” · published Sep 29, 2026
  4. “Poindexter: I know what it is like to work hard but still struggle to afford health care, and I will fight to fix the health care affordability crisis. I support undoing the health care cuts in the Big Beautiful Bill, which have raised premiums for all of us. Unlike Max Miller, I would have opposed that bill because it cut health care to pay for billionaire tax cuts. And I support working towards universal health care over time. I also support strengthening unions and collective bargaining so workers can bargain for better health care.” — Akron Beacon Journal (via Yahoo News) — “7th district candidates talk tariffs, health care and abortion” · published Sep 29, 2026
  5. “Miller: I think President Trump has done an excellent job cleaning up the mess our previous administration put our country in regarding the open border crisis. It is now more secure than ever, halting dangerous drug and human trafficking, as well as preventing more senseless attacks on American citizens.” — Akron Beacon Journal (via Yahoo News) — “7th district candidates talk tariffs, health care and abortion” · published Sep 29, 2026
  6. “Poindexter: I support having a strong, secure southern border. I do not want to go back to a time when we had a crisis at the southern border. I have always supported law enforcement on the Brook Park Council, and I will support strong border enforcement in Congress.” — Akron Beacon Journal (via Yahoo News) — “7th district candidates talk tariffs, health care and abortion” · published Sep 29, 2026
  7. “Miller: I support the pro-life cause, however, it is a state issue and Ohio voted for how they wanted to handle it. I respect the people of Ohio and their decision.” — Akron Beacon Journal (via Yahoo News) — “7th district candidates talk tariffs, health care and abortion” · published Sep 29, 2026
  8. “Poindexter: I do not believe this is a decision the government should make. In 2024, Ohio voted to protect a woman's right to make her own decisions about reproductive health care. I support that law, and I will oppose any bills that would threaten women or doctors with jail time.” — Akron Beacon Journal (via Yahoo News) — “7th district candidates talk tariffs, health care and abortion” · published Sep 29, 2026
